Violent communal clashes in Hyderabad, peace in the city shattered during the festive season

Hyderabad: Wednesday turned out to be a day for Communal clashes in Hyderabad as minor incidents were reported in different parts of the city. But as the sun sets down clashes took a vulgar turn in which nearly 15 people were injured and properties were damaged by the rioters.

Two different incidents of minor communal clashes reported in the day, when at Shad Nagar area in the suburb of the city, four Muslim youths engaged in the trade of cattle for Bakreid were attacked by an alleged mob of right-wing Hindu activists.

Bull, ox, and other cattle, carried in a lorry were stopped and animals were snatched away. Four youths were reportedly tied up to a tree and beaten heatedly, till local police came to their rescue.
Ironically Shad Nagar is the constituency of the state Home minister Sabita Indra Reddy.

In another incident at Mangalghat, Durga puja rally went awry when drunken miscreants in the rally attacked two Muslim youths driving a bike, and damaged some business stores of minority community.
But police immediately flung into action and rapid action force was called in to control the situation.

Heavy police deployed

But it was the dead hours of the night when events turned ugly in the heart of new city; violent clashes broke between Hindus and Muslims in what began as a minor argument over the ownership of a bull.
Two cattle traders from Musheerabad area of the city went on for searching their lost bull brought in for sale. The bull went into Kavadiguda area, a pre dominant Hindu locality, when cattle traders tried to take back the bull. They were resisted by local Hindus, which turned into a heated argument then into clash between both the groups.

Within minutes, clashes spread in whole Musheerabad locality, and Hindu Vahini (RSS front organization for Dalits) activists allegedly attacked Muslim passerby on the main roads with deadly arms.
In lethal clashes, 15 people were seriously injured, majority of then are from minority community. Vehicles of Muslims in ‘Bangladesh’ market were torched, and even a Government bus was damaged.
In the unfortunate clashes a wooden roof outside a Mandir was also damaged by the scoundrels.

Police was caught by surprise, and it took them some time to control the situation. Special Task Force, under Commissioner of police, Anurag Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Amit Garg patrolled the area.
Heavy security is being deployed now, in the violence hit localities.

Amjedullah Khan MBT leader and councilor who visited the violence hit areas, and the hospitals were injured were admitted said to TCN that attack was pre planned. “A petty dispute between two groups was exploited by miscreants and flamed into a communal clash. I spoke to the local Hindus they said all of the attackers were out siders, I firmly believe some right wing Hindu activists are brought from different places and are staying in city with the sole aim of creating trouble and communal tension.”

He also added that city police are not vigilant enough and at times the lower brass is in hand gloves with the communal mongers. “The attacks started at 10 p.m. continue till 12 in the night, local inspector along with four constables was left to control the mob. Interesting thing is city commissioner was first to arrive in the spot then his juniors, ACP, DCP were all absent to control the clashes.”

Khan said, “Musheerabad is an sensitive area and police should have been vigilant enough, situation got in control only after commissioner took the charge of local station, police should increase night patrolling, and should raid hotels and lodges where miscreants from other states are staying to fan communal tension during Eid-ul-Azha. If police start acting like real law and order protectors without any bias, then this kind of incident will not occur.”
